Water Palace – Tirta Gangga, Bali

Tirta Gangga water palace is a maze of pools and fountains built in 1948 by the Raja of Karangasem. The water palace is quite unique to most of the other temples in Bali and you can even go for a swim.

How to get to Tirta Gangga

Tirta Gangga is located in the eastern part of Bali, Indonesia. The water palace is also a few kilometers away from Lempuyang Luhur, the famous gate with a view on Mount Agung.

It is pretty easy to get to Tirta Gangga. It takes 2 hours by motorbike from Ubud. You can also use a car but the traffic is quite terrible in Bali so I think the motorbike is more convenient.

Tirta Gangga Price

The price is very cheap. Only 20,000 Indonesian Rupiah (1,4$) to visit this wonderful garden.

When is the best time to visit

Tirta Gangga is a popular visit so I would recommend going around 5pm just before it closes (6pm everyday). Normally, at that time of the day, it shouldn’t be crowded at all.

The garden is not that big so if you want to enjoy and take your time, I’d say you need approximately 30/40min.

What to do there
  • Walk around the garden and enjoy the stone carvings and statues.
  • Buy fish food and feed the Koi fish.
  • Take a bath in the freshwater pool.
  • Have a drink in a restaurant with a nice pool view.

The water palace is also surrounded by villages (Sideman for example) and rice terasses that are great for trekking.

Why should Tirta Gangga be on my bucket list ?

Tirta Gangga should be on your bucket list simply because that place is magical, unique and extremely peaceful. That is probably one of the most beautiful gardens I’ve seen so far.
