How to get to Pura Lempuyang
Pura Lempuyang is located in East Bali on Mount Lempuyang. It takes about 2 hours from Ubud to Pura Lempuyang by car, and 2 hours and 30 minutes from Kuta centre.
Pura Lempuyang price
It’s free but donation is expected and it can be literally anything you feel acceptable. You can do the trek yourself or have a guide so the guide you would tip them as well. We did the trek ourselves without a guide.
Where to stay
I’d recommend to stay in Amed. It’s an amazing little beach town that is about 30 mins away. It’s big into snorkelling and has fast boats to Gili which is why we stayed there.
How much time do you need at Pura Lempuyang
You need at least half a day if you’re doing the whole trek. Heavens gate is the first temple so you’d only need an hour but like 4 hours for everything.
Depends on athletic ability tho as it is 1700 stairs so it’s go at your own pace. Go early in the morning like 7 am or so (that’s when we went) because it won’t be as hot and humid as well as less people
What to do there
Do the whole trek. You can quit at any temple and turn around but it’s the personal satisfaction you get when you make it to the top!! It’s a tough trek but anyone can do it. Just have to be determined. The locals do it every day so if they can, we can. Also sometimes they have the real ceremonies going on at the very last temple and we were lucky enough to be a part of it. It was amazing to see.
Tips
- As for new people, you can pay for motorbike ride from after the first temple to the second for 1-2 bucks. So worth it!! As it’s a long 20 min walk otherwise which saves time
- There are wild monkeys at some of the temples so don’t touch them or look at them. They can be vicious little things
Why should Pura Lempuyang be on my bucket list ?
It should be on bucket list because it’s a spiritual journey that is fulfilling once you reach the very top. The views are great throughout, if you can be a part of the religious ceremony at the top it’s an amazing opportunity.
It’s a mind over matter type experience as you have to push yourself physically but it’s definitely doable. You don’t realize what you’re capable of until you do it! It was a really amazing experience. Heavens gate is the very first temple and perfect photo op with the mountain in the distance.
