Getting to Gardens by the Bay

You can get around the city very easily by the cheap and fast metro system set up in Singapore. Gardens by the Bay are right behind the Marina Bay Sands -the famous hotel with an infinity pool on the top. There are both metro and bus stops here. The Merlion statue and park is another main attraction within walking distance.

Price

The Skywalk at Gardens by the Bay was an 8 Singapore dollar entrance fee. If you want to see the Gardens as well, it’s another $12. Getting around by metro is a $2-$4 ticket purchase depending on where you want to go in the city. You can also purchase a full day pass and a weekly pass.

How much time do you need there

One afternoon for a layover wasn’t enough time in Singapore, but it was a good start. The city has a lot to offer with many tourist attractions that aren’t too “touristy”. There is also a lot of mixed culture within the city/country which is really awesome to experience. With that being said, I wouldn’t spend more then a few days there due to high prices. You can buy a beer for $6 vs. the 50 cent beers you can buy in other Southeast Asian countries.

Gardens by the bayWhen is the best time to visit Gardens by the Bay

Singapore has tropical climates year round, typically maintaining an average of 80 degrees F. The high cost for hotels is year round and doesn’t fluctuate for a high and low season. To avoid crowds for Gardens by the Bay, try to make it there on a weekday in the morning. Avoid weekends mid day for long lines. If you want to see the light show, go back in the evening and your pass will still be good for that day.

What to do there

China Town and Little India are all great places to get some cheap and delicious street food. You can take the metro to both of those places very easily from anywhere in the city. They are typically crowded, but worth it to take a walk around. The whole Marina Bay is beautiful and is not to miss. This includes the Marina Sands, Merlion Park, Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, and the Singapore Flyer. The Botanic Gardens are a must see as well if you have the time.

Why should Gardens by the Bay be on my bucket list ?

Singapore is like stepping into a whole other world. The streets are spotless and everything is so clean which in itself is worth it to go and see in my opinion. There is a hefty fine for littering and eating or drinking on the public transportation which keeps it looking the way it does. It’s a very mixed cultural country which is cool to see and everyone speaks English which makes travel a bit easier. The food is amazing and the sites are unbelievable. It’s a very modern city with a lot to offer for all price ranges. The airport is very popular for transit, so if you are just passing through, make it a point to have a long layover wether it be just an afternoon or 1-3 days. It’s worth it!
